Great Artesian Basin Mound Springs vs Artesian Bore Baths: What's the Difference?
Australia’s Great Artesian Basin creates two very different kinds of warm-water experiences. One is natural: groundwater reaches the surface through springs, seeps, pools, and mound-spring systems that have existed for thousands or even millions of years. The other is developed: people drill into artesian aquifers, bring groundwater to the surface through a bore, and direct that water into a pool or bathing facility.
Both can involve naturally warm artesian groundwater. Both can be memorable places to visit. But they are not the same thing. That distinction matters when deciding whether a destination should be described as a natural hot spring, a mound spring, an artesian bore bath, or a developed thermal pool.
